General information

        Phuket is the only province in Thailand which is an island. It is one of the world's most renowned tourist destinations. Phuket is well - known for white sandy beaches, and clear water which is suitable for diving. This island also offers various types of facilities for visitors.
        In the past, most of the Phuket people were of Chinese origin who brought about the wealth and prosperity to this island. They worked in tin mines and were traders of rubber latex. The Chinese influence shows in a number of shrines on many roads in Phuket and are the places to celebrate the Vegetarian festival in October every year.
        Currently, Phuket has changed into a touristic island which brings in a large amount of money from the tourism industry. Many tourists around the world come to visit the Andaman Sea and admire the beauty of the sunset in Phuket. There are plenty of activities for tourists to enjoy including hiking in the national parks, riding on elephants, and volunteering to work for the Gibbon Rehabilitation project.
