        The architecture of Phuket people which are extant today are Residence, Government Building and Temples. The uniqueness of Phuket residences can be divided into Folk Architecture, Chinese Architecture and Mixed Architecture (Sino Portuguese) as the following details,


Folk Architecture

Main Characteristics         The materials used are wood, bamboo, rattan and mangroves wood
Quality         Local materials
Main Characteristics         The pillar house is not buried in the soil, but it will place stone base
Quality         To prevent subsidence because of a sandy soil
Main Characteristics         Partition made from Bamboo lattice and usually with no window
Quality         Airy
Main Characteristics         Housing with no balcony

Chinese Architecture

Quality         Strong and durable
Main Characteristics         Low house building
Quality         Appropriate to the weather during windy and rainy season

Mixed Architecture (Sino Portuguese)
